SUMMARY

Dhamana has been involved in the Project since 2016, when the Scoping Study for the Project commenced. At the time, Dhamana was responsible for managing a team of Tanzanian consultants appointed to undertake the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA), as well as peer review and editing of all environmental reports. The ESIA was completed in 2017 and environmental approval received from the Government of Tanzania in early 2018.

Planning of environmental and social studies to support the definitive feasibility study (DFS) for Nyanzaga commenced in 2019. Dhamana has since acted as full-time environmental advisors to OreCorp, providing ongoing advice on environmental permitting, management of additional environmental and social studies, and review of environmental documents and reports. This also included revising the ESIA to ensure compliance with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and coordinating a revised submission to the National Environmental Management Council (NEMC).

In addition, Dhamana was also responsible for overseeing the extensive resettlement action plan (RAP) for Nyanzaga. The multi-year survey and planning process involves the resettlement of more than 700 households. Physical resettlement of households commenced in late 2023.
